In northern Minnesota, the name Hill City brings to mind the Quadna Mountain Ski Resort. Although skiing at Quadna Mountain is renowned in the area, there is much more. Snowmobiling and snowshoeing are also popular. Some people come to the area for swimming, boating, tennis, golf, fishing or hunting. Quadna is a four season resort with 1000 miles of trails available for hiking, biking, berry picking and bird watching, depending on the time of year. An ideal outdoor weekend in the fall would include a long hike through the woods during the time when the leaves change color.
The local community holds several yearly events that are outdoor-oriented. A fall hike might take place at the same time as their Art in the Park, which is held in September. Possible co-ordinating events during the winter, spring, and summer include a wild game feed in February, a fish fry in April, an Easter egg hunt, and their gala Fourth of July celebration featuring games, contests, and a parade.
Quadna Mountain offers lodging, a motel and a campground, and meals in their dining room. There is also the Blue Moon Resort and Motel, where food is available in their Loon Saloon and Grill, as well as horseback riding and year round fishing. There is also a city park campground. In fact, there are four city parks available for recreation in this beautiful wooded area. |
